I decided to continue sharing "Nothern Flowers" CDs with a series of
vocal cycles recordings, performed by splendid duet of Mila Shkirtil and
Youri Serov. I'd like to start with Valery Gavrilin songs.
Gavrilin worked in the style of neo-romantism and had a unique melodic gift. The basis of the most of his compositions is Russian traditional songs - such is vocal cycle "Russian Notebook". It was composed when Gavrilin was only 25 and immediately brought him fame. In the aspect of an appeal to the Russian folk songs he could be compared with famous Georgy Sviridov, who very much appreciated Gavrilin's talent.
Valery Gavrilin also worked in the field of popular songs. His "The City is Asleep" - it is presented on this CD - is very famous song, and, I suppose, you will find it marvellous.
