Last week composer Edward Elgar was in the picture, so I decided to post some Elgar records. Starting with James Judd, directing the Halle Orchestra, one of the finest versions of the first symphony. Different, faster, less British maybe, but driven and fresh, sounds the BBC Philharmonic under Hurst, performing the same symphony. The Enigma Variations and the Cello Concerto, both are first class readings. AlanE49 gave last week a link to the Piano Quintet and Quartet of Elgar; I added a second, impressive performance. Piano works of Elgar and one of his Oratorios, all these compositions are fine examples of this versatile and creative British composer. Enjoy!
