The Mahler I ♥♥♥ ... Das Lied von der Erde
... posed Trish the boho of Willy Russell's "Educating Rita".
Such is the essence of Mahler's music, that it will equally appeal to very simple or inexperienced ears as well as to the most sophisticated highbrows. Sure enough, this is music that gets extremely polarised reactions - the love-or-hate kind - like few others of the great classical repertoire.
You already know which side of the barricade we are on, still, we haven't had a comprehensive cycle at MIMIC yet, one that would offer the Bohemian genius' main works in some of the most beloved recordings available.
We plan on unreeling our Mahler I ♥♥♥ project through a series of mega-posts in reverse order: starting with what is possibly Mahler's most sublime peak - the otherworldly, eternal hymn to love and nature The Song of the Earth, followed by the Symphonies (from 9 to 1, each in a single mega-post).
The project will wind up with the remaining Lieder sets.
I'm not a great fan of any of the several completions of Symphony No. 10, but we will have a chance to enjoy a few very interesting recordings of some of them in the next days on MIMIC from the generous hands of our Author nzguy, plus a couple of favourite recordings of mine of the Cooke version, in my forthcoming Symphony No. 9 mega-post.
