Jean-Claude Malgoire (1940-2018) has been artistic director of the Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing for the last 37 years. This live recording presents one the many operas performed in that city in the north of France. Malgoire conducts the ensemble he founded in 1966.
The score of the first act of Catone in Utica was missing so Malgoire reconstructed it, composing the recitatives and searching for arias whose music fitted the libretto. In fact two original arias have been found because they were used also in Griselda and Rosmira fedele. Three arias have been chosen among the six surviving arias of Semiramide; then there is an aria that Vivaldi wanted to add to Farnace, and there is the only extant aria of La fede tradita e vendicata.
